Question:
what's the difference between an IAS and an IFRS?

The International Accounting Standards Board IASB issues both, but I don't know what the difference is.
I can hazard a guess - that they are basically the same thing, but a change of name has occured at some point.

Any ideas?

Thanks

IAS were issued between 1973 and 2001 by the board of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC). In April 2001 the IASB adopted all IAS and continued their development. The standards developed by the IASC and adopted from them are called IAS whereas the ones developed by IASB (often to supersede IAS) are called IFRS.
